The Maid Story - Family Overhauling Needed

9 comments:

  1. Maids are very uncommon here in the U.S. When I was growing up, I had a nanny who took care of me and my brothers. My mom would never tolerate us being disrespectful and anything close to being rude. I can't imagine how as parents you can allow your kids to scold or belittle another human being regardless of their job title.

  2. Although maids' salary averaged S$300, close to S$1k is needed to maintain them as there's government levy, their food & they pay different doctor fees from locals.
I've seen many families, although with tight budget, cannot function without them especially if the mothers aren't willing to be a bit domesticated or refuse a change of lifestyle.

  4. Nirmala's case is one of its kind. Currently her case is in court, suing the ex-employer of at least RM40k.
Here, it's about self-dependency of the future generations as S'poreans, on average, are the pampered lot.
That's the reason why volunteering activities, a must for students & schools brought them to rugged & less fortunate countries as eye openers & be a more caring & giving individuals.

  5. Maids are hardly found where I live. And its almost impossible to have a maid as they charge a lot. Its hard to believe that people can scold their maids. I don't think it is fair. They are people and can't be yelled for not doing something they weren't supposed to.

    Have a great weekend, Ummie...:)

  6. Yes, they are people & it takes all kinds of people from all walks of life to make a nation.
Not all employers are bad & not all maids are good, I mean, I've seen a number of maids with not-so-good intentions & their intentions shown.
    Luck plays a part, too.
